Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime To Feature 225 Mbps Download Speeds
GalaxyS5 / May 28, 2014

And you thought your smartphone’s download speeds were fast. According to a report published at ZDnet.com, Samsung’s upcoming premium variant of its flagship smartphone, dubbed the Galaxy S5 Prime, will feature a Snapdragon Qualcomm MDM9635 chip that’s capable of supporting download speeds up to 225 Mbps. Granted most cell carriers will probably throttle their customers before allowing them to hit these speeds, you can still technically achieve them with the Galaxy S5 Prime. ZDnet.com claims to have received this information from several unnamed sources close to Samsung. Is this rumor true or is it merely an attempt to generate hype for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S5 Prime variant? I guess we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to find out, but ZDnet.com has a strong reputation for leaking accurate details about smartphones and other devices. The current download speed cap on LTE is 75 Mbps, which means the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime is capable of downloading data three times faster than the LTE limit! Assuming the report is correct, this would be mind-boggling for any device to achieve. But there’s a catch: the 225 Mbps download speeds may only be available for users in South Korean (sorry U.S. users!). ZDnet.com…

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime Spotted In Bluetooth Certification
GalaxyS5 , smart phones / May 20, 2014

As Samsung officials continue to deny rumors of an upcoming premium variant of its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, evidence is piling up which suggests a release is on the horizon. The latest evidence includes a screenshot taken from Bluetooth SIG’s website (see image above), showing the device build SM-G906. This, of course, is just one more sign pointing towards a premium, or Prime, variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5. Unfortunately, the Blutooth SIG screenshot doesn’t reveal any hardware or software specifications for the device. It only lists the device as being Bluetooth 4.0-compatible, which is pretty much a given with any Galaxy smartphone. How do we know that device build SM-G906 is the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime? Everything is pure speculation at this point, but a Dutch website published the build earlier this year, claiming to have discovered it using Samsung’s official Find My Mobile service. The build, SM-G906, is the same found on the Blutooth SIG’s website, which would leave some people to believe that Samsung is working on the Prime variant with plans to release it in the near future. Of course, this isn’t the only instance of build SM-G906 being spotted. A Hong Kong website reportedly…

Airport Terminal 5 Being Rebranded ‘Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5’
GalaxyS5 / May 19, 2014

Get see some new changes being made to terminal 5 at London’s Heathrow airport. Starting May 19, it will be rebranded from top to bottom to promote the Samsung Galaxy S5. The promotional material will remain in place for 2 weeks, at which point workers will convert terminal 5 back to its original condition. Why Is Samsung Rebranding Terminal 5? Why is Samsung rebranding terminal 5 at Heathrow airport? The answer is simple: they want to promote their latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, which has already reached a monumental milestone of 11 million units sold. Samsung is known to have deep pockets when it comes to advertising and promotions, and you can bet they spent a pretty penny for rights to rebrand the airport terminal. But if the South Korean company is going to rebrand an airport terminal, it’s only fitting to choose terminal 5 (for obvious reasons). Samsung notes that this is the first time Heathrow has ever allowed a company to rebrand terminal 5. Whether or not it proves to be a cost-effective form of advertising for the company, however, is yet to be determined. Upcoming Changes To Terminal 5 Heathrow’s terminal 5 will undergo a complete…

Samsung Galaxy S5: 11 Million Units Sold Since Launch
GalaxyS5 , smart phones / May 16, 2014

Samsung has reported 11 million+ units of the Galaxy S5 sold since its launch in April. Being that it’s only been on the market for 35 days (as of writing this), these numbers reveal the enormous consumer demand for Samsung’s flagship smartphone. And while some people have criticized the Galaxy S5 for its lack of innovation in the design compartment, it continues to outsell nearly every other smartphone. Galaxy S5 vs S4 Sales: How Do They Stack Up? The Samsung Galaxy S4 had a strong launch month as well, but it still came up short when compared to the Galaxy S5. Just one month after its release, Samsung had sold 10 million units of the Galaxy S4. That’s an undeniably strong start, but it’s still 10% less than the Galaxy S5. “It’s been a month since we began selling the S5, and out of the gate, sales are much stronger than the Galaxy S4,” Jong-Kyun Shin, President & Head, IT & Mobile Communications Business,” told the WSJ in a recent interview. So, how was Samsung able to bump sales of the Galaxy S5 up to 11 million? Shin noted that the company’s strong sales for the Galaxy S5 was due in…

Samsung’s Mobile Design Chief Steps Down
GalaxyS5 / May 14, 2014

Samsung’s mobile design chief, Chang Dong-hoon, resigned from his position at the South Korean tech company in the wake of the Galaxy S5’s release. With the Galaxy S5 continuing to shatter sales records, though, why would the company’s design chief step down? Galaxy S5 Design Flaws Trigger Resignation The Galaxy S5 has received mostly positive reviews from critics and consumers alike, many of whom praise Samsung for producing a smartphone with exceptional hardware and software capabilities. But there’s one universal criticism that many people have complained about: the design. The Galaxy S5 didn’t exactly bring anything new to Samsung’s Galaxy line, as it still possessed the same plastic body that’s found in its predecessors. We talked about the possibility of Samsung using an all-metal design in the Galaxy S5 before the device was released, but in the end they kept the familiar plastic body. This plastic design ultimately drew negative criticism, with people complaining that it felt cheap and flimsy — especially for a premium smartphone like Samsung’s flagship Galaxy line “The design has been consistently commented on for the last two or three years, especially the lack of high-end materials. The Galaxy S family is still successful, so Samsung must…

Samsung Galaxy S5 Spotted on Google Play
GalaxyS5 , smart phones / May 12, 2014

The Samsung Galaxy S5 may soon be available for purchase through Google Play. Last month, Google temporarily published a tiled image on Google Play depicting several smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S4. The Mountain View company has since taken the image down, but it leaves us wondering: will the Galaxy S5 come to Google Play?   As you can see from the image screenshot image published above, it was the Galaxy S4 depicted on Google Play, not the S5. Was this a humor error by a Google employee, or is Google really planning to release the Galaxy S4 on Google Play? It’s doubtful (although not impossible) that Google would add the Galaxy S4 to its Google Play Edition (GPE). If they are going to add more smartphones, you can bet they are going to be recent-model flagships like the Galaxy S5. Upon closer inspection of the image, you’ll notice the so-called “Galaxy S 4” is actually the S5. It features the textured back, sunbeam wallpaper and other identifiable characteristics — yet the name depicted for the device is the “Samsung Galaxy S 4.” If your mind isn’t boggled yet, it will be: the Galaxy device depicted in the Google Play…
