Android 5.0 Lollipop Coming To Galaxy S5
GalaxyS5 , smart phones / December 31, 2014

Android 5.0 Lollipop is the largest and most comprehensive update in the history of Google’s mobile operating system. It introduces a wide range of new features, including a Material theme, new notifications, revamped messaging system, and even improved battery life via Project Volta. Now for the bad news: Galaxy S5 users in the U.S. have yet to receive the update, leaving many people to speculate when the update will occur. Google began pushing out Android Lollipop last November, with Nexus devices being the first to receive the highly anticipated update. Nexus 5 users have already reported seeing the update, while the Nexus 6 comes equipped with Android Lollipop right out of the box. It’s no secret that  Google plays favorite with its Nexus devices, giving them new Android updates before other devices. So, when will Galaxy S5 users receive the update? Unfortunately, there’s no definitive answer to this question, as Android updates — especially major ones like Lollipop — are somewhat sporadic. With that said, Galaxy S5 users in Poland have already received the update, with reports suggesting that other European territories are next in line. Assuming this information is correct, there’s a strong chance users in the U.S. will…

Why Is Samsung Dragging Its Feet With the Galaxy Alpha?
News , smart phones / October 14, 2014

We’ve known about Samsung’s premium smartphone for months now. The device was originally rumored to be named the “Galaxy Prime,” but recent reports suggest it will be called the “Galaxy Alpha.” What we don’t know, however, is when exactly Samsung plans to release it, or why they are taking so long. This year, we’ve seen an influx in smartphones with large screens that teeter on the line of being called a phablet. The Galaxy S5, for instance, boasts an impressive 5.1″ display, and Apple announced that both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus would feature larger display screens. So, what size screen will Samsung include in its upcoming Galaxy Alpha? According to PhoneArena.com, the Galaxy Alpha will have a slightly smaller 4.7″ Super AMOLED display with 720 by 1280-pixel. What truly makes the Galaxy Alpha stand out from the rest, however, is its physical design. It may have a smaller display screen with a lower pixel resolution, but the overall body design is quiet impressive to say the least. At just 6.7 mm, it’s the thinnest smartphone manufactured by Samsung — even thinner than the Galaxy S5. In addition to its sleek and slim design, the Galaxy Alpha also…

Samsung Confirms Android 4.4.4 Update For Sprint Galaxy S5
GalaxyS5 , smart phones , Software / October 8, 2014

It’s been a long time in the making, but Galaxy S5 users on the Sprint network may soon receive the Android 4.4.4 update. Sprint broke the news on more than month ago, but it didn’t specify an exact date for the over-the-air (OTA) rollout. This left thousands of Galaxy S5 users wondering when they would see Android 4.4.4 on their device. Well, it looks like that time is now, as Samsung recently confirmed the upcoming Android update on its website. According to Samsung support page published here, Android build G900PVPU1ANI4 (KitKat) was released on 9/24/2014 for the Sprint Galaxy S5. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that every user on the network will receive the update, as it will likely take several weeks for the rollout to complete. With that said, most websites are saying that the Sprint is actively working to release the new Android 4.4.4 update. So if you haven’t received the update, keep checking your Galaxy S5 and you’ll probably see it soon. It’s important to note that 4.4.4 will likely be the final build of Android KitKat. Google released the developer preview version of Android 5.0 L earlier this year, highlighting some major changes to its…

Galaxy A SM-A500 Spotted With Full-Metal Body
GalaxyS5 , News , smart phones / September 16, 2014

Samsung is known for releasing numerous versions, or variants, of its flagship smartphones, and the Galaxy S5 is no exception. According to leaked documents, the tech giant is preparing to release a Galaxy A variant (see image to the right). The upcoming Galaxy A will take a step away from Samsung’s traditional smartphone designs. While all of the previous Galaxy models have used a plastic body, this new variant will reportedly feature an all-metal body. Samsung has been criticized in the past for its use of a plastic body with the Galaxy S5, with some market analysts saying the company was cutting corners in an attempt to save money on production costs. Well, it looks like Samsung is taking the advice of these critics by releasing a metal body Galaxy variant. Unfortunately, we still know the complete details for Samsung’s new Galaxy variant. Tech Times reports that it feature a 13-megapixel primary camera, 5-megapixel secondary camera, 16GB storage, micro SD card,  2,330 mAh battery, and the same TouchWiz user interface from the Galaxy Note 4. Of course, the real beauty of the Galaxy A — if the reports are accurate — is its all-metal body. Samsung has been hesitant to produce…

Will The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime Boast Faster Download Speeds?
GalaxyS5 , smart phones / June 25, 2014

While Samsung has yet to officially announce a premium, or Prime, variant of its flagship smartphone, the general consensus is that Samsung is edging closer to a release date. They’ve manufactured Prime variants for earlier Galaxy models, so it would only make sense for them to do the same with the Galaxy S5. But what kind of specs and features can you expect to find in the Galaxy S5 Prime? ZDNet Korea Reveals Galaxy S5 Prime Download Speeds According to a report by ZDNet Korea, the new Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime will boast blazing-fast download speeds of 225 megabits per second. The website claims to have received this knowledge from “unnamed sources” close to the project. Granted, this isn’t an official confirmation by any means, but it’s a promising sign that users may  see an entirely new spectrum of download speeds. At 225 Mbps, Galaxy S5 Prime users could download apps, movies, music and other files in a flash. If this information is correct, the new Galaxy S5 Prime will boast download speeds which are three times faster than current LTE speeds for the launch-edition Galaxy S5. Download speeds for the Galaxy S5 are currently capped at 75 Mbps. Truthfully,…
