Lava Xolo Q1200 – Fits the bill

June 12, 2014

Lava has been offering some premium handsets under the Xolo brand and the Q1200 is one of them. It has been launched recently to compete in the mid-range along with a low end device that will go against the likes of Moto E. This device hasn’t got any high end or dazzling specs but it has got everything you need from a mobile device. It would handle all your jobs without any hassle and then when you need some entertainment, it will double up as a gaming device, music player or video player.

Display:

It has got a 5 inch display which is an IPS panel. It has got brilliant colour replication and the viewing angles are great as well. The display is bright and can be used easily in bright sunlight. The display has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels which is decent if not very impressive. The pixel density is 294 ppi. The display is crisp and even small texts are easily readable. The 5 inch size makes it pretty good for web browsing or watching videos. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which makes it safe against mild scratches and indentations.

Design:

We have seen Xolo take a simple approach towards the device design and it is the same story here. The device has a flat front and back. The device is rectangular but a bit rounded on the edges. It has got three capacitive keys right below the display. The back is simple as well with just the Xolo logo and camera with LEDs on the back. The built quality is decent and the device feels solid in one’s hands. Though the weight isn’t distributed properly and it makes handling with one hand a bit tough.

Hardware:

It is powered by a quad core processor that has a maximum clock speed of 1.3 GHz. It is coupled with 1GB of RAM. You get 8 GB of internal storage which won’t suffice but there is an option to expand it via a micro SD card. This device supports dual SIM with support for HSDPA networks. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, USB 2.0 and USB on the go. Handling the duties to power this device, there is a 2000 mAh battery. The size of battery might not be enough to provide juice for the device for long.

OS & Camera:

The device comes with an older version of android at 4.2 Jelly Bean but they might release an update soon. It gets an 8 megapixel primary camera which has a Sony Exmor sensor. This sensor has considerably less noise as compared to other mobile camera sensors. You get some nice shots even in low light. The front camera is pretty decent as well. It has a resolution of 2 megapixels and can serve well for your vanity checks and video calls. It is for sale less than 15K through online retailer. We would recommend this device for its nice display, decent hardware, good camera and justified price tag. We would have loved it more if it came with a newer version of android and slightly larger battery.
